June 7thWow, so much has happened in the past month. Hopefully, it will all get posted on here for all to read.
Easton went in on the 17th of May for his four month check up. He weighed 12 pounds, 8 ounces, was 24 1/4" tall and had a head circumference of 41.1cm. He's out of the single digits in all categories - finally hitting the ten percentile for weight. Woo Hoo!! He's definitely growing.
The doctor did suggest we start taking Easton to physically therapy for his flat head. This week, will be his fourth week going there. Due to the flat head, he has some asymmetrical facial things going on. His forehead and cheek are more prominent on his left side (the side that is not flat). He also has (basically) a kink in his neck on the right side, which is why he favors looking right over left. Looking left hurts him to some extent, so he prefers looking the other way.
Thankfully, the PT is helping immensely. When Easton's head was first measured, it was between a 10 and a 12. Anything above six, and they suggest a helmet to help put pressure on the other areas of his head and none on his flat spot. Last week, however, his therapist measured him between a six and an eight. It's definitely getting better. If we can get it down to a five, he won't have to wear a helmet at all. We are waiting until Easton is six months old before making the determination to get the helmet or not. Since the flat spot is getting better, it's possible he may get his number down to five and not need one at all.
With the changes we've made (based on the therapist's recommendations) and the exercises/stretching, Easton is doing a much better job of looking left and spending some time on that side of his head and body. In fact, he rolled over for the very first time on June 3rd. We were so happy for him. He didn't seem to understand what the fuss was about, but he did have fun rolling from his back, to his tummy and back again. He did a 360 and nearly rolled right under the coffee table. We do wonder how long it will be before he does a repeat performance for us?
Easton does a pretty good job of eating his rice and oatmeal cereal. We will start him on veggies, too, real soon. We'll enjoy these next several months as he eats TONS of fruits and veggies. If we are lucky, his diet will be a bit more varied than Kyla's is at the moment. The only vegetable we can get her to eat lately is corn.
Kyla went for her first haircut on May 26th. We only went into the place to pick up some hair bows, but when she saw the fun things they had there to sit upon, she volunteered to get a trim. She was very brave. She didn't shed a single tear and smiled for almost half the time. When the stylist was done, she let Kyla pick a hair style from some pictures. Kyla was so proud of her new look, she was almost afraid to play at the park for fear the wind would blow the ribbon right out of her hair. We took many picture of the special occasion so it will never be forgotten. She did make mom buy her some M&M's afterwards for doing "good manners," as she called it.
We had lots of visitors the last weekend in May. Granny, Gramps, Aunt Michelle, Uncle Tim and Aunt Sarah all came out to visit and celebrate Easton and Kyla's baptism. The kids were both baptised on Sunday, May 30, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church here in Highlands Ranch. Both Kyla and Easton did a great job during the baptism. For doing so well, and for being part of such a joyous occasion, the kids were able to enjoy a get together with family and friends back at our house.
With our love, the love of all our family members and God's love, we pray we will raise these two beautiful children to be as Christ-like as possible. We hope they will follow our teachings, as well as those of the church.
Kyla is still working on potty training. She's becoming a whiz, no pun intended, at peeing on the potty, but she will not poop on it for anything. She keeps telling us that next time she will go poop on the potty. If only her idea of next time, and ours, were the same. She did suggest we put underwear on Easton a few weeks back...just to see what happens. She's quite the ham.
Scott's softball team has won more games than they have lost, so that is a good sign. Fingers are crossed in the hopes they will win all the rest and take home a much needed first place victory for the summer league.
