August was a busy month for all of us. Easton turned seven months old while Scott and I were in Mexico. We were able to get away for five days for a much needed vacation; spending our fifth wedding anniversary at the Secrets Silversands Resort just south of Cancun. A big "thank you" goes out to Aunt Karen for flying in from Florida to watch the kids for us. She was pooped after five long days of childcare, but she had a blast. So did Kyla. We are still learning many of Aunt Karen's awesome talents. For example, Aunt Karen is the only one who can open the pantry door (which is child-proofed) because she wears glasses. Or, only Aunt Karen really knows how to play the "black and red" card game. Our favorite though is Aunt Karen somehow managed to teach the dogs to stay out of the kitchen/dining room while she was making dinner and eating. Kyla tells the dogs to go away during every meal, but they won't listen to us. Aunt Karen must be a dog whisperer because Harley and Ryder look at us like we are from another country if we try to tell them to get out of the dining room.
Easton is doing well. We are planning on taking him to see an orthopedist soon for what is left of his flat head. He's made amazing accomplishments on his own over the past four months, but we are hoping to help him out some with the helmet. He may never have a perfectly round head, but close to perfect would be fantastic.
He is also getting really close to sitting up on his own. He still loves his big sister TONS. Whenever she is around, he smiles and lights up like a Christmas tree. He just thinks his sister is the bee's knees. Easton also enjoys spending time in his jumperoo, exersaucer and on his tummy. He's not yet ready to crawl, but he's mastered his own way of maneuvering around. And...he's pretty quick when he wants to get somewhere.
Kyla is doing great too. She will be starting pre-school soon. Most days she seems excited. Other days, not so much. We are sure she will love going once she gets used to everything. She is also getting more daring around playground equipment. She will go down most slides now (on her belly), and is finally venturing to climb up ladders and such to get to the top of the play stuff. It's fun to watch her explore her surroundings more. All we need now is to get her on a swing. She still refuses to try them out unless she can sit on Mom's lap.
Kyla will be turning three soon, so we are preparing for that too. She picked her own birthday party theme this year. Since her birthday falls on Labor Day, she has chosen to have a red, white and blue party. It will just be her and a few friends this year, and she is excited to see them dressed up for the afternoon. She is also starting to understand presents, so we believe she is looking forward to those as well.
September is going to be a busy month for all of us, so we anticipate having a long blog. If all goes well, it will be a quick and easy read. Stay tuned for updates. We miss and love you all.
