As expected, October was a very busy month. We started the fun off by celebrating Aunt Michelle and Uncle Tim's wedding on the first of the month. Kyla was the flower girl. She did great! Now, whenever someone mentions a wedding, she assumes she gets to dress up and be the flower girl again. To be three again. The wedding was wonderful though and we all had a good time. It's always nice to see extended family and friends.Easton had his nine month doctor visit on the 11th. He's still a tiny little man. He weighed 16 pounds, seven ounces and was 27 1/2" long. At least his numbers are on the charts. He was off the charts, in the negative range, when he was born. He's definitely making headway.
Easton spends his days crawling around like a mad little man. He is super speedy. He thinks about pulling himself up onto his feet, but usually just settles for getting up on his knees. He also has fun making lots of consonant sounds. He says "mama" often, though it still does not refer to Mom yet.
Easton is still completely amused with his big sister. He follows her everywhere and is completely curious about everything she is doing. He's also found a great way to amuse himself when Kyla is busy or not paying attention to him. He throws a toy (any toy) around the house and chases after it. It doesn't matter if it's a ball, a plastic animal, a ball...he heaves it across the floor and quickly chases after it. It's a blast to watch. Easton's also getting really good at crawling under tight fitting places and getting stuck. He gets under the table, pulls all the chairs in tight behind himself and then wonders why he can't get back out? Yes, some days, he's really a smart cookie!
Kyla is still loving pre-school. She's made some new friends, though Grace is still her bestest. She comes home talking about the teachers everyday. Hopefully, she will feel the same once she starts elementary school. She is a HUGE fan of the arts and crafts. Every day she comes home with at least five papers she has colored on or cut up with her favorite pair of scissors. Some papers have nothing more than one colored line on them or one small cut with the scissors, but Miss Beth says she enjoys every minute of it.
Kyla loved all the Halloween festivities this year. She started the weekend off with a costume parade and party at school. She was a pirate and loved saying "Aarrrg, Matey" to anyone within earshot. On Saturday, both Kyla and Easton went to Trick or Treat Street at the Rec Center. It's the third year in a row we've gone with Grace and her family. We just might have to make sure it stays a Halloween tradition between all of us.
On Sunday, Halloween day, we carved pumpkins and got together with friends for a potluck and trick or treating. This year, we went over to Sheri's (Ace's mom) house. The kids had a blast. Kyla was very polite and said "Trick or Treat" to nearly every house she visited. Her and her friends had races to see who could ring the doorbell first. It was more than entertaining. Kyla, for a three year old, has more candy than she needs. Thankfully, Mommy and Daddy are around to help eat it all up. One of these years, we will trade all the candy in for money at the dentist's office - one of these years.
Easton is making great progress with his helmet. In three weeks, the difference on the back of his head has gone down four millimeters. He went from a 12 to an 8 this month. We are aiming for five or under. If he gets there during the next month, he will only have to wear the helmet for naps and at bedtime. We are thankful everyday for his progress and hope he can be helmet-free soon.
The dogs are well too. Ryder mainly enjoys food, treats and sleeping. Harley enjoys being Harley. She is great at barking, following us around, showering us with love and being her spazy little self. Maybe one day she'll go from being a puppy to being a dog.
Scott is busy working. He puts in long, full days to take care of us all. He's an excellent provider, husband, friend and dad.
We are all looking forward to the upcoming birthdays and holidays. Kyla was ready to decorate for Christmas by the second week of the month. It truly is an honor to watch the splendor of the world through a young child's eyes.
