April 2013

April showers bring May flowers, right?  Not sure how many flowers we will see in May if it continues to snow on us this month.  It's been a colder and snowier April than usual.  It's not uncommon for us to get a foot or so of snow this month, but it is rare to have so many cold days with little snow.  From the looks of it though, you are all seeing the same sort of cold weather.  Hopefully spring is indeed right around the corner.

The kids are doing great.  Kyla is getting back into the swing of things with soccer.  She scored her first goal this season.  She's becoming more comfortable getting into the thick of things which means she is able to get her foot on the ball and kick it away from the other team.  If all goes well, this new pattern will continue so she can score more and assist her teammates with goals.

Kyla still loves her teacher, so she is bummed about the thought of school ending soon.  We will save further thoughts on this matter for next month as it is bittersweet for us to know she will be graduating kindergarten in such a short time.  Our little girl is not as little any more.

Kyla and all of the kindergartners put on a circus show.  Kyla picked to be a prancing pony for the circus.  For the past month, she practiced songs, learned lines and pranced around school and home.  All the practice paid off because she did a fantastic job and was easily the cutest pony in the gym.  Easton enjoyed the performance immensely and wanted desperately to join in the circus fun.  Luckily, we were able to keep him close to his chair so as to not upstage Kyla and the other performers.

Dad and Kyla attended their first daddy-daughter dance.  It was put on by the Girl Scouts and was hosted at Southridge Recreation Center.  Kyla was so excited for the dance because her and Daddy matched.  Kyla wore a plum dress and was ecstatic when we found Dad a tie with plum in it and some coordinating cuff links.  Kyla received her first corsage, which was fun too because it smelled great and had plum in it also.  This girl sure knows how to match and coordinate accessories.

And to make the night even better, Kyla got to hang out with her best friend, Grace, and her dad, Neil.  She ran into some other classmates and troop members while dancing the night away.  One of them is the daughter of her kindergarten teacher.  Her name is Emily and she is in fifth grade.  Kyla and Emily spend a lot of time chatting together after school while waiting for Mom's turn to drive up in the car pool lane.  They have become buddies over the past several months, so Kyla was excited to see her there.  After all, she is in love with her teacher, Mrs. Hartley.  :-)

Easton is doing super!  He loves school and wishes he could go for more than one morning a week.  His speech is also getting better.  He is consistently using three and four word sentences every day.  He still has a ways to go as some words just don't come easy for him, but he has made great strides since turning three.  Luckily, when we are stumped about what he is trying to say, Kyla is able to understand him and relay the message.

May is a big and busy month for us, so please check back.  We enjoy sharing our highlights with you.
