June 2012

Happy June to all of you.  Kyla had her first T-ball game at the start of the month.  She did great.  Some times it took a few swings for her to hit the ball, other times she had a good hit on the first try.  When she runs the bases, she holds the heavy helmet.  It's cute to watch.  The outfield is another story.  She pays attention about a quarter of the time.  The other three quarters is spent talking to team mates and looking around for bugs or things more interesting to her.  We will have to see how she feels about the sport at the end of the season.

Easton went to two times the fun again this month.  He is getting better every month with participation, singing, turn-taking and story/circle time.  If all goes well, he will be better prepared for his two-and-half-year-old pre-school class at Christ Lutheran this fall.

One of the theaters in the area has free kids movies all summer long.  We went to two this month.  Grace, Lilly and Heidi joined us each time.  The kids watched "Chipwrecked" and "Happy Feet 2."  It's nice to be able to get out and do something free with the kiddos.  After each movie, Kyla would spend a few days or a week pretending to be characters from the movies.  She rotated between Alvin and Britney and a penguin.  Of course, she made sure Easton had his roles to play too.  He was often Theodore and a baby penguin.  Thankfully, he loves playing with his big sister, so he doesn't seem to mind what Kyla calls him.

We had a comforter made for Easton, which was the last thing needed in order to put his big-boy bedroom together.  He has a vintage sports theme, and we think it looks great!  However, due to the small size of the bedroom, we were not able to put his foot or headboard on.  They made the bed stick out too far, leaving little room to maneuver around.  Hopefully, we will be able to move in a year or two and put those pieces of furniture to good use.

Kyla and Mom both caught a stomach bug this month.  Yuck!  It is never fun to be sick, and throwing up is just plain awful.  The boys didn't catch it, and we were all thankful for that.  Two out of four is enough.

Michael's craft store offers free crafts three days a week for the next two months.  We plan on going to as many as we can.  Kyla loves doing projects.  We went to a Father's Day one and many highlighting important parts aspects of other cultures.

Easton is making great strides with his speech therapy.  He is getting more comfortable with his therapist, Miss Theresa, and enjoys doing puzzles, Mr. Potato Head and other games with her.  He is saying more sounds and tries his best to mimic her.  Once the basics are mastered, he will move on to action words and putting two or three words together in sentences.  As parents, we are super proud of his progress and enjoy hearing him say new words every day.  With a more limited vocabulary, he gets to remain our little boy for a bit longer.

Mommy took Kyla to Chuck E. Cheese one morning while Easton was at his class.  She did not like playing any games that made loud noises.  Some games were fun to play, but they only gave her a ticket or two.  She found a coin launching game that typically spit out a decent number of tickets, so that quickly became her favorite.  We were only there for an hour, but she had enough tickets at the end to pick out four toys and a piece of candy.  She can't wait to go back again.

There was a Father's Day class at the rec center again this year.  Kyla took that with her best friend, Grace.  They made a great present this year -  a fish made from clay.  It is bound to look great sitting in Daddy's office at work.

The antique car show was this month, so we all went and looked at some fun cars.  Kyla got to play a few games and won a shirt and some toys for both her and Easton.  We also found a Mustang worth a quarter of a million dollars.  Too bad it did not belong to us.  It's hard not to like a car with that sort of price tag.

For Father's Day, Scott wanted to grill.  Breakfast was not grilled, but everything else was.  Scott was in heaven.  The kids made many gifts for Dad this year.  They each made cards, pictures and key chains for him.  Plus, we put together a nice gift card basket with some of his favorite eating places and stores around town.  There were even a few cigars thrown in there.  The weather was almost perfect.  It was a great way to spend a Sunday.

Scott had a Tuesday off from softball, so we went to Famous Dave's to see the ever-popular, Wilbur (the pig).  Easton did not want to get too close to Wilbur this time.  Kyla took her usual picture with him and colored a picture.  At the end of dinner, Kyla was able to hang her coloring on the wall for Wilbur to see whenever he comes in to visit the patrons.  She thought that was pretty cool.

Our church had VBS during the last week of the month.  Kyla went with both Grace and Cooper.  Vacation bible school is a lot more fun when you have good friends by your side.  There was a deep sea theme this year.  At the end of the week, the kids all performed a few of the songs they had learned.  The show was fantastic!  Kyla enjoyed her teachers a lot.  She even asked one to be her new babysitter.

We would like to thank everyone who tunes in to read our blog.  Although it is only updated monthly, we do hope you enjoy hearing about some of the bigger happenings in our lives.  Okay, it's mainly the kids we talk about here.  But let's be honest, they do far more than us on any given day.  We miss all of your dearly.  You are always in our thoughts and prayers.
