October 2013
Happy Fall, October and Halloween!
Kyla is learning all about homework and responsibility this year. She has homework every Monday and has to return it to school, in her homework folder, on Friday. She also has to remember to bring her library book to and from school, as well as her Friday folder. It is probably fair to say all of this responsibility falls more on Mom's shoulders. Kyla gives Mom many reminders throughout the week to make sure everything ends up where it is supposed to end up.
In addition to homework, Kyla works on flashcards, reading books, and counting money throughout each week. She also does a lot of counting by twos, fives and tens while riding to and from places.
Easton has no homework, but he loves to come home and do additional art projects. Sometimes he does some on his own, other times it is with Mom or Kyla. He also really enjoys using his dry erase boards, so he practices writing his ABC's and numbers almost daily. He also likes to count with Kyla, so chances are, he will be light years ahead of where she was at his age. One perk to being the second child.
Kyla scored some more goals this month and participated in her first soccer tournament. Her and her team came in first place at the Kohl's Cup in Arvada. Go Sugar n Spice! Easton is still doing phenomenal at practice. When it comes to the game, he is either not paying attention or doing his best to tackle someone to the ground. He also really enjoys lying down on the ground and crying/pouting when a teammate scores a goal. Oh how much he has yet to learn in order to participate fully and contribute more to his team.
On the 11th, Kyla had her six year check up. It is safe to say she will probably not be topping any charts at the doctor's office. Ever! She is remaining constant in her numbers and is at least on the chart. She weighs a whopping 37 1/2 pounds and is three feet, eight inches tall. All in all, the doctor said she is doing great.
Easton caught some nasty virus this month. He ran a fever for four days straight and was pretty much miserable if he wasn't being dosed with Tylenol or Motrin. The doctor could not confirm what he had, but it sure took its time running its course.
Grandma and Grandpa came to visit us for a long weekend. Everyone loved having them here. Kyla had so much to show and tell them. It was their first time seeing the new house, so there was so much more to discuss. Easton chimed in during the rare moments when Kyla paused to take a breath. Grandma and Grandpa were able to watch both kids play soccer, so that was extra special for them. We also got to take them to our favorite pasta and ice cream place. Sadly, the food was not as good as usual, but the company was great. We can't wait for them to visit again.
Easton wrapped up his first soccer season this month. He did not score any goals, but he sure did a great job of tackling his teammates. He also seemed to enjoy throwing tantrums on the ground when someone else scored. All in all, it was a fun six weeks. They boys have a long way to go, but it was entertaining to watch them. After the last game, the boys all received t-shirts, medals and yummy soccer cookies. Can't wait to see how the spring session goes with the Incredibles.
Easton visited the pumpkin patch at St. Luke's with his pre-school class. As is always the case, they got to pick out one small pumpkin to bring home. Easton's philosophy was to pick the roundest one so it could also be used as a ball.
Redstone elementary put on their fall festival again this year. We all went. The kids dressed up as "smarties" pants. They went trick or treating, got their faces painted, took pictures in the photo booth, ate pizza and enjoyed a reptile show in the gymnasium. They also went into the mad scientist room to make an oozing ghost with some special "mad" ingredients. Kyla was picked by the assistant principal as one of the winners for 'best costume.' She received a monster cup as her reward.
We had our annual Trick or Treat Street date with the Kruglet girls. Everyone was super excited for candy and face painting. This year everyone also got to hula hoop and do a craft project. It was a fun time. We always enjoy doing extra activities with Grace, Lilly and Heidi.
Busy month for haircuts. Everyone crammed one into the last week, so we would look our best for family pictures. We went to a trail with a lot of fall foliage for family pictures this time. Everyone did great. Easton did his best to smile and look at the photographer (who happens to be the mom of a good friend of Kyla's), Kyla made up many necessary poses for shots of just her and Scott is still alive to talk about it, so...you know it wasn't all that bad.
We ended the month with Trick-or-Treating. The Kruglet family came too, as is the usual custom for us. We actually went through our neighborhood for a change. There were never many houses in our old sub- division, so it was nice to walk around where we live now. It was much colder this year, and it seemed as if the cooler temps affected things a bit. There seemed to be less trick-or-treaters on the street and less houses with lights on. In fact, a lot of houses had candy in bowls on the porch. Funny what a difference ten or twenty degrees seems to make on Halloween night.
We hope you had a blessed start to the fall season. Please come back and visit our blog soon.
